Where to buy phages
Many patients wish to “buy phages” and wonder where they can obtain them.
It is sometimes possible to acquire them online, without knowing either their quality or authenticity.
But above all, patients who want to obtain phages confuse phages with chemical pills and do not know how to use them, in what quantity, for how long, etc. They then engage in self-medication destined to fail, or worse, helping the bacteria develop resistance to phages due to misuse and insufficient quantities.
The Eliava Institute has published a recommendation on this subject : Lien
It should also be noted that phages are considered a “medication without a Marketing Authorization (MA)” according to French (and European) authorities. Therefore, having phages delivered can lead to issues with French customs.
That being said, for patients under the guidance of a physician who is seeking the right phages for treatment, the official and reputable places to obtain phages are:
– The Phage Therapy Institute in Tbilisi, Georgia.
– The Queen Astrid Clinic in Belgium (which collaborates with the Eliava Institute in Georgia) : https://www.hopitalmilitaire.be/onderzoek_labmct_fr.php
– The Pherecydes Pharma laboratory in France.

– The Croix Rousse Hospital in Lyon. (France)

Which phages should I buy?
There is a vast collection of phages, and not all are effective against the same bacterium. There are multiple phages for Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus (for instance), so it’s essential to conduct a “phagogram” to determine which will and will not be effective against the patient’s bacteria. Without this test, the chances of healing are very limited because one wouldn’t know which phage to administer to the patient.
How do I use the phages I’ve purchased?
In all cases, treatment should be sought from a healthcare professional to avoid mistakes. Too many individuals self-medicate without results because they misuse the phages or administer them in insufficient quantities. However, for your information:
– For urinary tract infections, a daily urethral instillation of phages should be done to deliver a larger amount directly to the bladder for two weeks.
– For pulmonary infections, phage inhalations are done under medical supervision, ensuring that patients tolerate them well. Indeed, some patients find them hard to tolerate, and others have experienced respiratory distress requiring oxygen. It’s necessary to proceed step by step.
– For osteomyelitis, it’s often required to perform a curettage and apply the phages directly to the infected site; without this, chances of recovery are nearly none.
– For gastric problems, it’s crucial to conduct microbiota analyses, understand the patient, and know their condition. Alongside phages, suitable probiotics and a tailored diet will be prescribed. Phage therapy is highly individualized since each case varies.
It’s essential to understand that phage therapy is a highly personalized treatment tailored to the patient’s bacteria and overall condition. It’s a holistic approach very different from the Western chemical therapeutic model.
We can assist you in contacting the Eliava Institute, which can supply you with phages, provided you are in touch with your doctor and can connect them with Eliava’s physicians to inform them about the best practices in phage therapy. However, we urge you to understand the phage therapy process before resorting to ineffective self-medication.
How do I know if the phages I’ve purchased are “real” phages?
Sadly, it’s impossible to determine this. That’s why it’s vital to purchase official phages from the Eliava Institute, which neither guarantees nor endorses any other form of its phages sales.
Our Approach:
Our stance on phage therapy is not to discredit it but to apply it correctly and professionally.

I bought phages but don’t know how to use them. Can you advise me?

I feel like we are doing anything by just drinking phages and self-treating. If I understand correctly, the phages must be in contact with the bacteria; drinking phages will do nothing in cases of lung infections, for example. I believe this is still medicine, and to give yourself the best chance of healing, it’s better to be followed by a competent doctor. That’s my opinion!

I bought phages online for 600€ which had no effect. I understand now that I did not know how to take them. I just drank them, whereas it was a sinus infection (which I still have) and I should have used them in irrigations with an ENT device. It all depends on the specific conditions, but in the case of a sinus infection, I advise against buying phages and instead recommend seeing an ENT specialist who will treat you with them.
